Maa Tara

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1 John 4:1 (ESV)

Mahavidya Practice Sheet

02. Goddess Tara

The Savior Goddess (Cosmic Sound, Spiritual Navigation & Ultimate Protection)

🔸 Core Bija Seed Mantra

Trāṃ (त्रां) / Strīṃ (स्त्रीं)

  • Phonetic Mechanics: Pronounced by fusing the dental "T" or sibilant "S" cluster with a strong, rolling "r", vibrating through the long vowel sound, and resolving cleanly into the nasal anusvara "ṃ".
  • Esoteric Function: Known as the sound of the crossing or deliverance. *Trāṃ* and *Strīm* act as powerful cosmic beacons that clear deep psychological blockages and guide consciousness across the turbulent, stormy ocean of material illusion (*Samsara*).

🔸 Ritual Mudra (The Hand Position)

The Tarani Mudra (The Boat Gesture)

  1. Bring your hands together in front of your chest and interlace your fingers deeply inside your palms.
  2. Extend both middle fingers straight upward, pressing the pads of the fingertips firmly against each other.
  3. Touch the tips of your thumbs together, extending them slightly forward to form a small, stable vessel shape with the base of the hands.

Somatic Alignment: This hand formation physically creates a supportive vessel or boat structure. It centers energy right at the heart chakra, anchoring a strong sense of inner safety, rescue, and unshakeable direction during deep meditation.

🔸 Primary Attributes & Iconography

  • The Blue Form (Nila Saraswati): She is depicted with deep blue skin, representing the vastness of the infinite sky and ocean, and her close connection to the primordial element of space and sacred, unspoken wisdom.
  • The Blue Lotus (Nilotpala): She carries a partially open blue lotus blossom in her hand, symbolizing the absolute purity of supreme knowledge, the power of speech, and the gradual awakening of consciousness.
  • The Scissors or Cleaver (Kartrika): Held firmly in her upper hand, this tool represents the swift, merciful cutting away of all mental confusion, false attachments, and worldly fears that bind the practitioner's spirit.
