Mahavidya Practice Sheet
01. Goddess Bagalamukhi
The Goddess of Stambhana (Immobilization & Silence)
🔸 Core Bija Seed Mantra
HlÄ«m (ह्लीं)
- Phonetic Mechanics: Pronounced by layering the aspirate "H" sound immediately before the liquid consonant "L", moving into a long, sustained "ī" vowel, and dissolving into the nasal anusvara "ṃ".
- Esoteric Function: The heavy initial friction of the "H" combined with the steadying "L" creates an acoustic shockwave. This specific resonance acts as an energetic brake, causing an instant freeze (stambhana) of mental fluctuations, external disruptions, or negative speech patterns.
🔸 Ritual Mudra (The Hand Lock)
The Stambhana Mudra
- Interlace the middle, ring, and pinky fingers tightly together, folding them flat down inside the palms.
- Extend both index fingers straight upward, pressing the pads of the fingertips firmly against each other.
- Press both thumbs together side-by-side, resting them flat against the outer fold of the middle fingers.
Somatic Alignment: This closing of the lower three fingers locks personal kinetic energy into a circuit, while the unified index fingers form a sharp, upward pillar of absolute intent and stabilization.
🔸 Primary Attributes & Iconography
- The Golden Radiance (Pitambara): Dressed in vibrant yellow garments and adorned with turmeric malas. She represents the bright, striking light of truth that paralyzes the darkness of ignorance.
- The Club (Gada): Held in her right hand, this weapon symbolizes the swift, crushing blow of discrimination that shatters ego-driven delusions and unhelpful mental habits.
- The Silencing of the Tongue: Depicted pulling out the tongue of an adversarial force with her left hand, signifying the radical cessation of gossip, cruelty, internal doubt, and the restless chatter of the intellect.
