Maa Kamalatmika

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
1 John 4:1 (ESV)

Mahavidya Practice Sheet

10. Goddess Kamalatmika

The Goddess of Lotus-Consciousness (Abundance, Beauty & Devotion)

🔸 Core Bija Seed Mantra

ÅšrÄ«m (श्रीं)

  • Phonetic Mechanics: Pronounced by merging the soft palatal sibilant "Åš" with the rolling "r", leading into a elongated "Ä«" vowel, and resolving cleanly into the nasal anusvara "ṃ".
  • Esoteric Function: Known as the premier seed of prosperity, beauty, and auspiciousness. While Bagalamukhi’s seed acts as a force of absolute contraction and immobilization, *ÅšrÄ«m* acts as a force of radical expansion, radiant light, and the organic unfolding of devotion within the spiritual heart.

🔸 Ritual Mudra (The Hand Position)

The Kamala / Padma Mudra

  1. Bring both hands together in front of the chest, joining the heels of the palms firmly.
  2. Press the outer edges of the pinky fingers together, and press the outer edges of both thumbs together.
  3. Spread the index, middle, and ring fingers wide apart, forming the shape of an opening lotus bud.

Somatic Alignment: This gesture mirrors the internal blossoming of divine consciousness. It acts as an energetic chalice, channeling the flow of life-force energy directly up into the heart space to cultivate receptivity and grace.

🔸 Primary Attributes & Iconography

  • The Lotus Throne: She sits upon a magnificent, fully bloomed pink lotus, representing absolute purity, cosmic order, and spiritual illumination arising beautifully out of the muddy waters of the material world.
  • The Four Four-Armed Mudras: In two hands she holds lotuses, while her remaining two hands display the Abhaya Mudra (fearlessness) and Varada Mudra (boon-giving), signaling unconditional protection and spiritual abundance.
  • The Four White Elephants: She is flanked by four celestial white elephants who continuously pour jars of sacred nectar (*amrita*) over her head. This symbolizes the continuous downpour of cosmic grace, vitality, and royal sovereignty.
